Frequently asked questions
Who can attend a Family Adventure?
Our Family Adventures are designed for family participation so there needs to be a minimum of one adult and one child on each booking. The courses are open to children of all ages below 17 years old. The adult must have parental responsibility for the children and is responsible for supervising behaviour at all times even when under instruction by Skern tutors.
Are there any age limits on activities and do I need to be physically fit?
The maximum age limit to qualify for a child place is 17 years old. All children between 6 and 17 years of age can take part in every activity. There is no upper age limit for participation nor a particular fitness requirement but people need to feel comfortable taking part in the activities described in the itinerary.
What if I don't want to do an activity?
We encourage everyone to try each activity, but we strongly believe and work to the principle of Challenge by Choice. All we ask is that you come along to the activity, try on the equipment and make the choice once you are ready.
Will I be doing activities just with my family or with other people?
You will join other families to do the activities, we work on a ratio of 1 tutor to 8 clients. So depending on the size of your party, you may be with 1 to 4 other families. Where possible we will try and group children of a similar age.
Will a member of the Skern Lodge staff be available during our stay?
On arrival you will be greeted by your Course Director, they will be looking after you and providing your activity instruction during your stay and will ensure all aspects of your holiday run smoothly. We have a duty instructor on call during the night. The duty instructor is the same person throughout your stay and will be on hand to deal with any problems during the evening and overnight.
