Young Person Development in a nutshell

As a young person develops from adolescence to young adult they go through a period of massive change. This change is hard to teach yet the expectations at this point in life are very high and there is little room for error.

Skern Lodge has been delivering personalised courses designed to help this process since the 1980’s and continues to do so today. ‘Learning through experience’ lies at the heart of our organisation and the programmes we offer reflect this. It allows young people the chance to explore aspects of personal and team development using a variety of activities designed to challenge and test their abilities and skills. The approach is followed up by regular reviews, which allows an individual to come away with a raised awareness of themselves and providing the confidence and the motivation to take responsibility to continue their learning back in the real world.

Each programme is specifically tailored to your requirements. So if you need evidence for key skills, want particular topics explored which are integral to your organisation, or time to write up experiences needed for a particular curriculum module then just let us know.

The length of each course is up to you, we run 2, 3, 5 and 7 day courses – if time is tight we also offer the 30 hour challenge.

All courses are run by trained facilitators who work closely with the teams for the duration of the course, guiding their learning, managing any failures that occur and making sense of each experience to help transfer these to their own environments.

‘The course was completely tailored to meet the needs of
