75% of the centre now has solar powered heating.

Our grounds are abundant with various species of wildlife. We always look forward to the return of the swallows.

ENVIRONMENT MATTERS

Most of us like to be a bit more environmentally aware in our every day lives and Skern Lodge is no exception. 

Everybody at Skern is encouraged to play an active role in sustaining a responsible attitude towards the environment.  Continually checking that our processes and equipment are current and providing the desired outcomes has led to many changes.  These range from our user-friendly recycling scheme and using water based cleaning products, through to larger projects like our solar panels, which heat our hot water, and the highly efficient steam ovens we use in the kitchen.

Investing in these changes has allowed us to demonstrate how a culture of environmental awareness can be both implemented and sustained. This has been used to great effect by sharing our knowledge and achievements with customers and other businesses alike.

Skern Lodge is committed to sustaining our natural surroundings by reducing our environmental impact and promoting good practices through:

• Training employees within their working practices, ensuring reduced impact in all areas.

• Educating clients in the sound understanding of environmental impact and reduction.

• Complying with relevant environmental legislation and implementing systems and procedures to assure compliance.

• Instil the philosophy of continuous monitoring and improvements of practices and procedures throughout the company.

• Monitoring our environmental action plan at the quarterly Health & Safety meetings.
