LOOKING AFTER YOU, YOUR FAMILY AND YOUR CHILDREN
INSTRUCTORS & SKERN LODGE STAFF
All instructors and tutors are fully trained and qualified in the activities that they instruct. Staff selection includes practical interviews, careful following up of references and CRB checks - taking great care to ensure they are right for us and right for you! Whilst on activity there is 1 instructor to 8 participants.

STAYING AT SKERN LODGE
As a family you will have your own warm comfortable room, alternatively it may be possible to room your child/children with others of the same sex and of a similar age, allowing them the independence they crave whilst knowing you’re close by.
‘As a mother I actually felt that Skern took over my ‘Mother role’
which was lovely, I COULD JUST BE ME’

CATERING
We take great pride in providing (probably!) the best food in our industry – great variety, fresh, local options and prepared, cooked and served by an outstanding team with care and good humour. Any dietary requirements can be catered for and there are plenty of healthy options.
LOOKING AFTER YOUR UNACCOMPANIED CHILD
We realise that sending your child on holiday on their own can be a daunting experience and whilst you want them to have a carefree and fun time you also need to know that their safety and general well being are being taken seriously from the moment they arrive to the moment they leave. If you have any doubts, we are more than happy to discuss any aspect of their holiday either by phone, e-mail or you are more than welcome to visit the centre.
PERSONAL & SOCIAL WELLBEING
During their free time we have Duty Instructors and Duty Managers who are responsible for their personal and social well being. The Duty Instructor and Managers ensure that your child eats well, brushes their teeth, goes to bed at a reasonable hour, gets up in the morning, keeps their room tidy and doesn’t spend all of their pocket money in one go! They sleep in the same accommodation in a dedicated staff room and as with all Skern staff, are available to support your child should the need arise.
STAYING AT SKERN LODGE
The residential experience develops personal and social skills, and can be great fun! Problem solving, communication, working and living together, combined with the range of exciting activities, gives them a great experience and will ensure your child returns home with a big smile on their face having achieved so much and having learnt new things about themselves.
Children are accommodated in single sex rooms according to age. Where you wish for a mixture of boys and girls who are friends or siblings to be roomed together we will accommodate them in this manner where possible.
SECURITY
Although we are in a safe, rural area, with clear site boundaries and no near neighbours, security is still very important, especially at night. Ground floor windows (and many upstairs) have restricted opening and each of the buildings has measures in place for maximum security. The Duty Instructor ensures everything is shut down and secure at the end of each day.
