Our programmes aim to maximise the use of the outdoor environment for the development of leadership, teamwork and personal development. Programmes are designed around your individual needs, ensuring that your students will really benefit from the experience only residential programmes can achieve.
Skern Lodge is ideally situated on the North Devon coast, enabling us to deliver a wide range of activities to create the right learning environment. We have a number of activities on-site ranging from a team based assault course, high ropes course, climbing tower, archery and an underground tunnel system. Off-site we offer a number of water sports including surfing, kayaking, and rafting as well as land based activities which include coastal traversing, abseiling, navigation and expeditions.
As you would expect from a centre, which has been running for over 30 years, we have a great reputation based on the quality of our locations, safety, our activity equipment and most importantly our staff. Our tutors aim is to facilitate the students learning in a structured but relaxed way to maximise delegates input to the course, ensuring that both individual and team needs are achieved. Our tutors are qualified in all the activities they deliver to ensure all aspects of your health and safety needs are met.

What do your students need?
Our programmes maximise the use of the outdoor environment for the development of social, personal and leadership skills along with meeting unit requirements for nationals, diplomas and HND’s.
These can include:
Unit 9 Outdoor and Adventurous Expeditions – BTEC National & First Diplomas in Public Services
Unit 10 Outdoor and Adventurous Activities – BTEC Level 3 Nationals specification in Sport
It’s not all action outdoors; our experienced tutors knowledge and expertise guide the students through the theory aspects of the units during the evening sessions. Covering areas such as safety and environmental considerations and how various organisations meet the needs of provision of outdoor and adventurous activities.

Our experienced tutors help guide and facilitate the learning gained from experiences which enables students to apply this learning into the work placements. Throughout the week students are introduced to various models and theories, e.g. Kolb, Honey & Mumford & Tuckman, students then use their experiences and theoretical understanding to prepare themselves effectively and have a clear and focussed understanding of assessing and planning their own learning and development needs.
Our courses can run from a single day or as a residential experience over 1 to 5 nights.
