Focus on the Geography

Focus on the Geography introduces photography within the Geography Curriculum at Key Stage 2 and 3, encouraging pupils to analyse information both spatially and visually, as well as engaging with, and discovering some key concepts in Geography.

Pebble Ridge PHD

PhD Student Ralph Brayne from Exeter is currently researching sediment supply rates to Northam Pebble ridge. The ridge is a vital natural sea defence for Westward Ho! and Northam Burrow’s. Ralph’s work is important to understanding this feature and will supply the first quantitive data on the Pebble Ridge. JOHN MUIR AWARD AT SKERN LODGE

Skern Lodge is now pleased to be able to provide John Muir Award for 2012, the award is at the Discovery Level and is available and adaptable to a variety of different groups. We will be adding a John Muir section to our website but in the meantime please call or e-mail us for further details.

The GA annual Conference

This year Skern Lodge attended the annual Geographical Association conference at the University of Surrey in Guildford. It was an excellent, educational and very friendly conference and we would like to thank all those who spared a moment to stop and chat with us.

Hydrology	Fieldwork Aim – To investigate changes in river channel characteristics from source to sea
9.00am	Introduction to study area and set hypotheses
9.30am	Depart for Exmoor (Arrive approx 10.30am) Risk assess fieldwork, set up and carry out sampling strategy and collecting data at 3 sites.
12.00pm	Lunch
12.30pm	Collect data at sites 4 and 5. Discuss rejuvenation of river long profile
2.00pm	Visit Lynmouth Discuss flood events and compare and contrast to Boscastle flood.
3.00pm	Return to Skern Lodge Field Studies Centre
5.00pm	River cross-sections and calculations
6pm	Dinner
7pm	Further data analysis including Spearmans Rank test.
